Quirky And Contemporary Style
Understanding that Denim Events would be launching into an already highly competitive market, it was important to create a brand that would set the company apart, visually. The founder wanted a strong brand image that attracted corporate clients, but wasn’t so straight that it scared off private clients. Creating logo designs always requires a strong understanding of the initial brief and maintaining a close relationship with the client.
During our initial briefing, Denim Events’ founder explained that the company is named after the clothing material, as “denim never goes out of style”. They wanted a quirky yet classy brand image to reflect the company’s approach and attract high-end clients. They required a logo that referenced ‘denim’ in an understated manner, as well as to give the impression of ‘timelessness’ through the branding.
In order to help us determine the exact direction of the Denim Events brand and aesthetic, we began by completing an analysis of the company’s biggest competitors. This process helped us to define four key elements of the company that we would go on to base our four concepts around.
– A fresh outlook and approach
– Quirky and contemporary style
– Bespoke services
– High quality eventsBack to top
Distinctive Embodiment Of The Brand's Core Values
Using the theme of denim, we didn’t want the image association for all of the logos to be too obvious, so we tried to look at elements within the material such as the stitching or the fold of the material.
We presented four concepts to the client – each distinctive in their own right and each embodying the brand’s core values independently.
We included one purely denim focussed logo which offers a bold and funky image. Utilising a denim texture and detailing, this is the most obvious and relatable concept. The great thing about creating logo designs like this one is that it retains its impact at any size.
The ‘Folded Concept’ is a contemporary and simple take on the brief. The clean and simple design – exaggerated by the use of pastel colours – is very effective in conveying the brand message whilst providing a slightly more corporate image.
The ‘Thought Thread’ concept is slightly more abstract in its approach; combining a number of elements relative to the brand. The mass of colours relates to the thought process involved in designing and organising a successful event. The shape of the thread also implies a thought bubble, or a balloon – synonymous with celebrationsBack to top
Elegant In Style And Luxurious In Feel
The client chose our Gold Stitch concept, which was classy and elegant in style, and combines the colour-ways mentioned to us within our initial consultation – black and gold. The logo has a luxurious feel to it that would appeal to corporate clients, wedding clients and projects with large budgets. We feel that due to its’ professional and high-class aesthetic, that clients would develop a real trust for the brand.
The client requested we provide the logo in a navy, as it may further reiterate the brand message. However, having seen the navy option, it was clear that the gold colouring added an extra finish to the logo.Back to top
Quirky User Experience
In order to get a feel for the sort of design required, we asked that the client provide us with examples of websites they relate to aesthetically. As we noted that most of the websites provided were built in Flash, we explained more about this language to the client along with the benefit of other code languages.
We agreed that the best option would be to create the majority of the website using HTML for effective SEO and to include elements of animation in order to keep the ‘quirky’ user experience that the client required.Back to top
Delicate Elements Of Animation
Having established the brand, which is fairly illustrative in nature, Denim Events were keen to continue this element throughout the website.
Additionally, as the client really liked some of the animation within the example sites provided, so we thought it might be nice to add delicate elements of animation of the thread throughout the website to add on the logo design.
Throughout our research for the brand we uncovered many little known facts about denim. When we presented these to the client, they were so interested in some of them, they wanted to include them within the website. We created a scrolling animation to reveal a bit of history and context that helps to explain the brand further. It also adds to the general quirky feeling that the brand gives.Back to top
Once we had determined the site map and received approval from the client, we set out to create the illustrations that the company was keen to include. We decided that the illustration elements would work well as icons to identify pages.
After the illustration and animation stage, we moved on to the page design, which we kept clean and professional to evoke feelings of trust.
The website is clean and minimal in its design style. It also contains small animations and illustrative elements to set the company apart from their competition within the events’ market, with an established and unique design. Furthermore, large high-resolution photographs are also used throughout the website to allow prospective clients to gain a feel of Denim Events’ previous work- thus making it easier to gain the trust of prospective clients.

Simple And Clean Layout
Having defined the brand colours and aesthetic, it was easy to determine that the business cards should be kept simple and clean and that the focus should be kept on the logo.
We had agreed the stock, size and shape with the client prior to the design as they had a clear idea of what they required. This way our final design was according to specifications and was exactly what they wanted.Back to top
Contemporary And Slick Design
We provided three versions of the concept in different layouts, keeping the design contemporary and slick.
We offered our designs in different formats: two distinct landscape and one portrait design. The latter appealed the most to our client and is the concept we continued with.Back to top
We printed 1000 copies of the design in full colour, on both sides on to a 4000 gsm, luxury matte laminated stock. The client had opted for 90 degree angled corners.
For convenience the cards were delivered on a fast-track basis to the client’s home.Back to top
