A New Direction
Three singles into his new brand, Chozen had featured in each piece of artwork. In order to most effectively convey the message within Chozen’s single, “Sell My Soul” we felt it may be a good time to take the artwork in a different direction.
Previous single artworks had been mainly photography based, fairly dark in colour, with Chozen as the central focus. To keep the brand exciting, and intrigue his fans, we decided that it was time to create a new aesthetic for Chozen’s fourth single design, whilst still representing the atmosphere of the track through the visuals.Back to top
Lighter Aesthetic With Illustrated Elements
Having established that we wanted to steer this artwork away from the style of the previous three singles, we opted for a lighter aesthetic that combined illustrated elements.
The track itself is entitled “Sell My Soul”, which might imply negativity. However, within the chorus the lyrics state “I won’t sell my soul”. Therefore, we wanted to create a visual that played upon these ideas of duality.
The use of the mask not only presents a somewhat scary image, it also gives reference to ideas of protection and an exterior element that is not the ‘soul’ / truth in this single design.
We placed the mask within Chozen’s planetary symbol which was first established during the branding stage. The symbol represents fate, and so within this context, the symbol refers to taking control of your own destiny.
The mask appears to have a bullet piercing it, which can create quite a striking image. However, on closer inspection, it becomes apparent that the bullet, is actually a pencil. This is a visual representation of ‘knowledge of self’ destroying an exterior layer. Once this layer has gone, only the soul remains.Back to top
The artwork provided a visual interpretation of the track, with a lighter aesthetic than Chozen’s previous singles. The inclusion of the chorus lyrics allows the viewer to gain some interpretation of the artwork.
Provided in a physical format, the artwork was printed to a folded CD sleeve, with additional CD duplication and on-body CD printing.Back to top
